Antarctica's Gaining Fame
Two friends emailed me yesterday with links to the Yahoo! homepage, which featured
an article about the historic Antarctic hut at Cape Evans. One of them mentioned how Antarctica is getting popular, and he's right. There have been numerous news agencies and film crews down here this season. Some I've mentioned before, MSNBC, Anne Aghion, and Werner Herzog; others I haven't even seen on station but I know they were here: Good Morning America, Reuters, and NOVA. Word on the station is that we're gearing up for IPY, or the International Polar Year. There are two links I'm going to make available.
This first one is for the interim page. The second one will be the homepage when it's finished being developed. Click here to read what it's all about. This will be the first IPY in 50 years, and it's main goal is to enhance understanding of both poles by increasing the amount of research being done at both locations (in the Arctic and Antarctic areas - not just the poles).
